#32 Donald Ward '71

Donald Ward is considered one of the greatest Running Backs in the history of Greenwich Football.  He was inducted into the Greenwich High School Hall of Fame in 2015.

In 1970 he gained 1,579 yards rushing in a nine game season.  He scroed 266 points in three seasons for the Cardinals (1968-1970).  In 1970 against Rippowaum High School (Stamford, CT) he scored six touchdowns.  He was a New Haven Register All State Selection for the 1969 and 1970 seasons.

Donald was tragically injured on October 12th, 1971 in an automobile accident while attending prep school in Wakefield, MA, ending his football career.

He was a scholarship football player to Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) recruited personally by Joe Paterno.  His Number, 32, was retired at GHS in the fall of 1971, the only jersey number to be retired at Greenwich.
